Publicado el 30 June 2022

In mid-June, mountain resorts in the central and southern zones of the country reopened their slopes, hoping to increase the number of visitors compared to the previous year.

The ski resorts in central and southern Chile kicked off the 2022 winter season.

Among this year’s novelties are the opening of new circuits and infrastructure improvements. With this, the mountain resorts hope to regain some of the audience lost during the pandemic, which mainly affected the 2020 season.

Skiing in the Central Zone

The ski season in Santiago’s surroundings officially opened in mid-June with promotions for visitors.

The first to inaugurate the 2022 season was Parques de Farellones, Chile’s first winter park with a focus on activities for the general public. Located next to the El Colorado ski center (Lo Barnechea, Metropolitan Region), its facilities include a tubing track (sliding on inflatable cushions), canopy and panoramic ski lifts, among others.

As it is a winter resort, snow sports are not to be missed either. With low-difficulty ski slopes, the site has a school for learning this sport and snowboarding, as well as snowshoeing activities designed for children.

The Portillo Ski Center (Los Andes, Valparaíso) also opened its slopes early, on June 18th. The winter center emphasizes that its facilities are not only for athletes, since its offer includes wine tastings, yoga classes, sunsets at the hotel pool, film festivals, live music, and snowshoeing to the shore of the Laguna del Inca, among other activities.

Valle Nevado will continue with its “Valle Safe” protocol, a plan developed by the Association of Ski Centers ACESKI. This implies the mandatory use of face masks and social distancing, as well as limited capacity and mobility passes to access services such as the Valle Lounge and Bajo Zero restaurants. In addition, the ski resort expects to open new tracks and elevators for this season.

The center emphasizes that its offer includes thermal water pools, which can be accessed according to the program. Regarding accommodation, the site has two hotels and 36 apartments for up to 5 people available for its visitors.
