In June 2023, the tourism industry of Chile caught the attention of the international press with important news related to connectivity being part of important international media. Although during and in the days following the meteorological emergency that affected the central-southern part of the country- a situation which took place on June 21st, 22nd, 23rd and 24th – there was no news related to the tourism industry abroad, destinations and experiences had a significant impact during the month.
New routes
The international press in June 2023, highlighted several spaces to report an increase in connectivity in Chile with other countries from around the world, with the opening of new air routes during the month.
In mid-month, the SKY airline inaugurated its direct flight between the city of Porto Alegre and Santiago de Chile, news that caused interest in specialized media in Brazil, as well as in the local press. Latam also announced a new route linking the Chilean capital with Belo Horizonte, which was also highlighted as news.
Another of the announced routes during the month was the Foz do Iguaçu – also in Brazil – to Santiago de Chile, information which reaffirms the importance of the Brazilian market for the Chilean tourism industry.
But Brazil was not the only country to benefit from new air routes for 2023. In Argentina they celebrated the return of direct flights between Barilo and Santiago de Chile, news that was reported in the local press.
Most searched for and top destinations
The winter vacations are already felt in the southern hemisphere, and the international press in June in Brazil highlighted Chile as one of the most searched for destinations for this 2023.
Media like CNN and Panrotas indicated that Santiago topped the list of the most popular destinations, while Turismo em Foco highlighted the Desierto de Atacama as one of the favorites for Brazilian tourists.
But Chile not only topped the list of the “most searched” in the month, because it was also highlighted as an eco-friendly destination in Argentina, “backpacker” destination in México and a romantic destination in Brazil. In addition, once again it was positioned as the gastronomic destination for 2023 and with unmissable National Parks according to specialized media in the United States.
Moreover, while waiting for heavier snowfalls in the northern hemisphere (where it’s summer) the ski season in Chile advanced for this 2023, with media from the United States and Europe cataloging the accommodations and snow resorts that exist in our country as the best in the world.
Chile Travel in Europe
In accordance with the promotion strategy of the destinations in our country, Chile Travel – Sernatur’s brand for international audiences – carried out an important activity in Europe in June 2023, which was highlighted in the international press.
Europa Press highlighted that our country “landed” in Madrid and Barcelona to show the professionals in the tourism sector in this country – as well as the representatives from England, France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Netherlands – the attractions that Chile offers for European travelers. Along these lines, the message that the different regions in the country have offers ranging from wines and wellness to astro tourism and adventure sports was reinforced.
At the same time, in view of the Pan American and Parapan American that will take place in Santiago and other cities in 2023, Chile released the “Sello Turístico and Guía Turística de Santiago 2023”, news that was also replicated in the media abroad.
