Publicado el 19 April 2022

The health authority established different levels of alert with specific requirements for the entry of foreign tourists to Chile.

Updated June 15th, 2022

In mid-April the new measures for the entry of foreign tourists to Chile began to come into effect, with changes to the requirements to travel to the country.

According to the Chilean Ministry of Health, three types of alerts were established to determine the epidemiological conditions. These are:

  • Alert Level 1: a scenario of community transmission of the already known and controlled variants is assumed.
  • Alert Level 2: there is a variant of concern without community circulation, or with an initial community circulation, and where the health authority determines that the country is prepared to respond to its prevention and control.
  • Alert Level 3: considered a variant of concern without community circulation within the country, where there is no more information or a high health impact on the population is estimated despite the response of the health system.

Depending on the level of alert, the health authority will apply different requirements for the entry of foreign tourists to Chile.

Santiago de Chile

Alert Level 1

Level 1 Alert is the one that is currently in force in Chile and allows for the entry of foreign tourists from all over the world, who must comply with the following sanitary measures:

  • Complete the Affidavit for Travelers at c19.cl.

In this alert, the approval of vaccines for travelers will be voluntary. However, the homologation of vaccines is mandatory to obtain the Mobility Pass, a document that is required to enter closed places in Chile such as restaurants, cinemas, and gyms, among others.

Pre-trip testing (PCR) is also voluntary, while upon arrival in Chile travelers may be tested randomly at the airport or at the land border through which they enter.

If there is a confirmed case of SARS-CoV2 on a flight, passengers will be isolated at the address reported on the c19 or at a Health Residence, while for close contacts there will be a follow-up.

Atacama Desert

Alert Level 2

In Level 2 Alert, the health authority changes the measures and limits the entry into Chile with reduced flow from and to countries where the presence of a new Covid-19 variant is suspected.

The requirements to travel in this alert are the following:

  • Complete the Affidavit for Travelers at c19.cl.
  • Have Covid-19 health insurance worth at least USD $ 30,000
  • Prior diagnostic test (72 hours before the trip) mandatory
  • Compulsory immunization approval
  • Mandatory testing or antigens upon arrival in Chile

The alert also forces confirmed cases of Covid-19 to isolate themselves at a health residence, while close contacts must isolate themselves at home or at health residences.

Torres del Paine

Alert Level 3

Level 3 Alert considers a complex epidemiological scenario, so the measures for entering Chile are intensified in the face of a greater risk from Covid-19.

This alert completely restricts travel to and from places where the presence of a new Covid-19 variant of concern is suspected or confirmed.

The requirements for entering Chile become the following:

  • Complete the Affidavit for Travelers at c19.cl.
  • Have Covid-19 health insurance worth at least USD $ 30,000
  • Prior diagnostic test (72 hours before the trip) mandatory
  • Compulsory immunization approval
  • Mandatory testing or antigens upon arrival in Chile
  • All passengers, with or without a positive diagnosis, must do their quarantine at health residences.

At land border crossings, where it may be difficult to carry out PCR tests due to storage conditions, the testing requirement may be met with antigen tests.
