In the middle of the second day of FITUR, the Undersecretary of Tourism for Chile, Verónica Kunze, with the Chilean Ambassador in Spain, Mr. Javier Velasco met with María Jesús López Solás, Iberia Commercial Director, and Victor Moneo Ocaña, Strategic Alliances and Agreements Director for the airline, to sign a new collaboration agreement to promote Chile in Europe.
Verónica Kunze explained that “Europe is a priority market in the dissemination strategy of Chile as a tourist destination. 30% of the international promotion budget is focused on this region, with Spain, Germany, France, and England as countries of interest. This agreement reinforces the work that we are promoting. We want our offer and destinations to reach a higher number of potential visitors, thus continuing with the work of recovering the levels of foreign tourist arrivals to Chile registered before the pandemic.
During the signing of the agreement, María Jesús López Solás, Iberia Commercial Director, highlighted that “this is a key agreement in our effort to reinforce, more and more, our commitment to Latin America, a strategy in which Chile has a real highlight spot. This agreement is proof of that, and we hope to continue bringing Chile to Spanish and European customers, who could discover in a closer way all the wealth that this country has to offer.
Iberia currently has a capacity of seven weekly frequencies between Santiago de Chile and Madrid, in other words, a daily flight between both cities. The airline operates this route with its A350 airplane, which has a capacity of 348 passengers. For this reason, the number of available seats in 2023 will exceed 230,000.
With a global network of more than 134 destinations in the world, Chile is a relevant connection for Iberia. This agreement will last all of 2023, a year in which the destination will be promoted on the different airline platforms.
On one hand, Iberia passengers will enjoy the entertainment platform and videos aboard of spectacular images of Chile. This service will be active on long-haul flights operated by Iberia for two months.
The promotion of Chile will also be extended to other media such as the airplane website through its banners, as well as in newsletters, and social media.
In this way, the agreement between Chile Travel and Iberia reaffirms the close relationship of both to bring the destination closer to the European continent in 2023.
