Chile was in the international press news in October 2023. It was a month marked by sports contingency for our country, first because of the South American qualifiers for the 2026 soccer world cup, and then because of the Santiago 2023 Pan American Games.

Our country’s tourism destinations also continue to be protagonists in foreign media, appearing in important travel publications.

Actions of Chile Travel in the foreign press

The arrangements of Chile Travel resonated in the international press. Tiempo Sur from Argentina dedicated an article to the visit of three Harry Potter actors  to the Torres del Paine.

We are talking about Mathew Lewis and the brothers Oliver and James Phelps, who played Neville Longbottom, and Freddy and George Weasley, respectively, in the movies based on the well-known literary series by J.K. Rowling.

Meanwhile, El Periódico from Spain dedicated a report to the Araucanía Region, defining it as a place full of “traditions, nature, and sustainability”. The article is divided into two: the traditions of the Mapuche people, and the national parks in the region.

On their behalf, the Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Pardo, participated in the International Fair of Tourism (FIT) which took place in Buenos Aires, Argentina. On this occasion , the undersecretary  highlighted the beaches, surf, astro-tourism, and cuisine in Chile, according to Weekend.

The undersecretary also gave an interview to the Argentinian media Reportur, in which she talked about the air connectivity recovery process, and stated that in Chile “we have gained flights that we did not have before, and have lost some flights we could not get back”.

Chile, unmissable in 2024

Lonely Planet, one of the most important travel magazines in the world, highlighted Chile as one of the 50 destinations to visit in 2024.

The publication mentions four unmissable tours: visit the Torres del Paine; taste the Carménère wine variety in the Colchagua Valley; visit nature and hot springs in Pucón; and go on a patrimonial tour around Valparaíso.

On their behalf, the American edition of Forbes placed Rapa Nui among the best luxury destinations for next year, positioning it as an ideal place “both for nature enthusiasts and for experienced travelers”.

Viña has a festival

There are big expectations for the 2024 Viña del Mar Festival, whose list of guests was revealed mid-October and generated an immediate reaction in the international Spanish-speaking media.

Artists such as Alejandro Sanz, Peso Pluma, Maná, and Laura Pausini stole the headlines. In Perú, El Comercio noted that it is an “emblematic event”, and RPP talked about a “stellar line up”, while El Libero pointed to the “feared stage of the Quinta Vergara in 2024”.

In Mexico they highlighted the presence of Peso Pluma. Contrareplica stated that he is “the best new artist of the year” and Debate titled that the singer “will take the war runs (corridos bélicos)” to the Viña del Mar contest. Meanwhile, Los Andes from Argentina valued that there are “two well-known Argentinians”, referring to María Becerra and Miranda.

In Europe they are also actively looking at the festival. In Spain, Sony Music and Los 40 highlighted the participation of Alejandro Sanz, who, for the fifth time, will be present at this event which is key for tourism in the Valparaíso Region.

Extreme adventure in Chile

Chile continues to strengthen as the favorite destination for extreme sports enthusiasts, which was reflected in the four travel journals that Snow Brains dedicated to the southern part of our country.

Rafting on the Futaleufú River; a climb to the Ventisquero Colgante Waterfall; skiing on El Fraile and Cerro Castillo; and a tour around the marble caves of the General Carrera Lake were some of the experiences highlighted by the American website.

The other sport that caught the attention was Mountain Biking. The specialized magazine Bike Mag called the Atacama Desert as a paradise for freeriding. It also reported that the famous  mountain cyclist Andreu Lacondeguy went on a tour all around Chile.
