The Mujer Empresaria Turística Contest (Tourism Businesswoman Contest) will award two winners CLP 2,500,000 in cash and an audiovisual kit to support their promotion.

The call for female tourism entrepreneurs to take part in the Mujer Empresaria Turística 2023 Contest, organized by SERNATUR in conjunction with the Ministry of Women and Gender Equality and BancoEstado, is open until June 27th.

This year, the focus of the contest will be on those companies led by women that consider inclusion and sustainability in the way they develop their businesses and tourism products.

At the launch of the initiative, now in its fourteenth edition, Antonia Orellana, Minister of Women and Gender Equality, said that “This is the second edition that I have been invited to participate in and the projects that come out are truly inspiring.

For us, they have a special meaning, because they are not only businesswomen, they are women who also provide employment to other women, who tend to activate their local communities, and who also link up with other women’s companies, such as those who provide the resources for food, those who provide transportation and, therefore, boost local economies as well. I invite them to join because they will also be able to access resources that are so important, such as funds and the support of this promotional video that is so important for this time of digital marketing.”

Female employment in tourism has rebounded after overcoming the strongest phase of the pandemic. During the mobile quarter January-February-March 2023, it was recorded that 47.6% of employed people are women, in other words, 290,130.

The Undersecretary of Tourism, Verónica Pardo Lagos, highlighted the rate of female occupancy in the activities characteristic of tourism, because “Women in the sector have an impact on others and invite them to be brave, which is why their participation in tourism increased one point before the pandemic when it was 46.6%. We must continue to encourage more women to want to work in this sector, as it is an economic engine and fundamental for the development of the country.”

The launch activity was also attended by the SERNATUR national director, Cristóbal Benítez, and the vice-president of BancoEstado, Verónica Kunze, as well as representatives of tourism guilds headed by women.

For this reason, this year we will reward women who apply sustainability and inclusion in the way they run their businesses, elements that are also a priority for the development of tourism.”

For the vice-president of BancoEstado, Verónica Kunze, “We are very proud to be able to participate, once again, in this contest, because we know that it is a concrete tool to support a segment that has been strongly affected in the last few years and that is crucial for the economic reactivation of the country.
